Honey Sold Out Of A 1960's Ford Truck
Danielle Brooks in St. Augustine, Florida.
What do you like most about St. Augustine?
I love living in St. Augustine because it blends small-town charm with rich history and a true sense of community. From the magical Nights of Lights to the everyday connections with neighbors, this city feels both timeless and welcoming—a place that’s easy to call home.
What’s your backstory?
I’ve always loved drinking tea, especially with honey. One day I thought, how amazing would it be to have my own hive to harvest from? That thought sparked a deep curiosity, and I dove headfirst into researching bees and beekeeping. After checking out every book in the library on the subject, I decided to take the leap and start with a hive of my own.
Along the way, I found the perfect partner for this dream, a vintage truck that became the Honey Truck.
From markets to pop-ups all over St. Augustine, I began selling honey and sharing the story of the bees. What started with just one hive quickly grew into a full-scale business with a mission: to educate people about honey bees, native pollinators, and how we can all help conserve their habitats.
Today, I maintain multiple hives in St. Augustine and partner with other small-scale beekeepers across Florida. What began as a love of honey in my tea has turned into a passion for bees, community, and conservation.
What are your income streams?
My income streams include direct-to-consumer sales on my website, seasonal popups, farmers markets, and local retailer partnerships.
We have a brick and mortar store at 155 Dobbs Business Circle, Unit 201, St. Augustine, Fl 32086.
During the holidays, I focus on holiday markets, and tastings supporting local wholesale partners.
How have you grown the business?
Storytelling and community involvement have been key to our growth. Being featured in local media, offering tastings at markets, and showing up as a woman and mom in business have helped build genuine trust with our customers.
Partnering with retailers and sharing my journey on podcasts has opened new doors, while behind-the-scenes content continues to resonate with people who value authenticity.
Word of mouth has also been powerful. When someone recommends our honey, it’s the best kind of advertising we could ask for.
Lately, I’ve been traveling to nearby cities like Orlando, Tampa, and Gainesville to connect with new wholesale partners, and I’m already seeing direct growth from those efforts.
What’s your favorite product?
My favorite product is our Holiday Honey. It’s special because it comes out once a year and makes a beautiful hostess, teacher, or self-care gift. The blend is unique, and every jar is harvested and packed with care. I always hope it brings comfort and a little sweetness to someone’s season.
If you could go back, would you do anything differently?
No. I believe the choices I made, whether the best or not, helped shape my perspective and knowledge. I wouldn’t trade those experiences.
What are your goals?
I would love to eventually sell the business. My present sales are hovering around 200K. In 5 years, my goal is to exceed $500K.
What platforms do you use?
Shopify for website and POS
Klayvio for email subscribers
Quickbooks for bookkeeping
Faire for wholesale
