Texas Royalty Beaded Jewelry
What is your name, where are you from?
Sienna Bernal from Houston, TX
What do you like most about Houston?
There are so many fun things to do in the Houston area. I love going to The Aquarium.
What’s your backstory and how did you come up with the idea?
Even though I have an identical twin, I’m one of a kind–literally. I hold two Guinness World Records that recognize how rare I am.
I was born 1 lb, 7 oz and diagnosed with Primordial Dwarfism, Dandy Walker, Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum, a hole in my heart and am hard of hearing. Doctors didn’t expect me to survive, let alone have a viable life.
Beading started as a form of dexterity therapy, but it quickly became something I loved. It was a way to express myself creatively. And after struggling to find a job because of my disabilities, I decided to give myself one and turn my beadwork into a business.
What are your income streams?
I sell on-line and at in-person markets.
How have you grown the business?
Being featured by Guinness World Records gave me a lot of visibility early on.
More recently, winning the Miss Texas Royalty Ultimate Queen title has boosted my confidence in a big way. Wearing a crown at markets is an amazing conversation starter! I’ve learned that being authentically me is the best marketing I could ask for.
What is your favorite product?
I really enjoy making bracelets, especially ones with crackle beads, clay bands, and anything in a mermaid style. I love the colors, the textures, and how every combination feels a little magical.
I also really enjoy taking photos of my jewelry. It’s fun to style them and show off the little details that make each one special. Seeing people wear my pieces and feel beautiful in them is the best part.
If you could go back, would you do anything differently?
Maybe I’d have believed in myself sooner. It took me a while to realize that my story, my creativity, and my voice had value, not just to me, but to others.
What are your goals?
I’d love to be as big as Kendra Scott and have my jewelry carried in boutiques across the country, especially shops that support disabled or underrepresented designers, and eventually open my own studio or storefront.
I want to keep designing and expanding my brand, including creating a full Mermaid Collection, traveling to more vendor markets, and continuing to raise awareness for Dwarfism and the disability community.
One of my biggest dreams is to hire other adults with special needs to be part of my team, so they can experience the same joy, independence, and confidence that running this business has given me. I want my brand to be more than just jewelry. I want it to make an impact.
What platform and tools do you use?
I have a website and like to use Instagram.
Do you have a favorite motivational quote?
One of my favorite quotes is: “With God, all things are possible.” It reminds me that no matter how hard things get, I can keep going.
I also like to say, “Go big or go home.” Just because something seems out of reach doesn’t mean it’s impossible. You have to believe in something bigger, and in yourself, too.
Do you have pets?
Three blue European Great Danes named Khaos, Boujie and Kronos.
